Roles and responsibilities in pollution intervention planning; Site operators

Site operators are required by law to protect the environment from the effects of polluting incidents. A pollution incident response plan can help them achieve this by minimising impacts on the environment should an incident occur. For sites falling under environmental permitting regulations, such a plan is likely to be a requirement of their permit. The plan may be incorporated within their overall management plan or be a specific accident plan that supports the management plan. At sites storing combustible wastes the permit may include a specific requirement for the operator to produce a fire prevention plan.
