Statement from National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) on culture in fire and rescue services:

“Misogyny and all forms of hateful and derogatory language are entirely unacceptable and do not have a place in UK fire and rescue services.

“Our number one priority is to tackle poor culture where it is found to exist and ensure that our sector is a safe and welcoming place for all people to work. Whilst many tangible steps have been, and are being, taken to address poor behaviour, we know that progress across the sector is not happening quickly enough. We also know that those who bravely speak out do so not solely in the pursuit of justice, but also in the pursuit of change so that others do not have to endure the same behaviour.

“Following the allegations reported in the media this week, it is right our sector is subject to public scrutiny and NFCC continues our commitment to improving the culture of our fire and rescue services and our unequivocal support to those who have been brave enough to speak out.”
