Understand:

  • The need to carry out a risk assessment before approaching the casualty, in order to provide resuscitation treatment
  • The procedures for providing resuscitation treatment to casualties with a suspected cardiac arrest
  • The equipment that can be used to provide resuscitation treatment to casualties with a suspected cardiac arrest
  • That if resuscitation treatment is commenced, it should be continued until the casualty is handed over to a medical responder

Carry out a risk assessment to determine if it is safe to approach the casualty to provide resuscitation treatment

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Determine if it is safe to approach the casualty

 

Extricate a casualty who is trapped and in cardiac arrest by the quickest means possible

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Rapidly extricate a casualty who is trapped and in cardiac arrest

Assess the casualty and if appropriate provide resuscitation treatment as soon as possible

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Assess the casualty
  • Provide resuscitation treatment if appropriate

Ensure that instructions for an automated external defibrillator are followed if the equipment is used

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • If required and available, use an automated external defibrillator following instructions for the equipment

Continue with the resuscitation treatment until the casualty can be handed over to a medical responder

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Provide resuscitation treatment until the casualty is handed over to a medical responder
