To carry out an appropriate informed risk assessment of a transport-related incident, personnel should have an appropriate understanding of:
- Transport networks
- Modes of transport, including their construction materials, uses and contents
- The effects of operational activity on the transport networks
- The types and volumes of people using the transport networks and modes of transport
The following sources of information should help to inform situational awareness throughout the transport-related incident:
- Site-Specific Risk Information (SSRI); this should indicate the location of:
- Specified access points
- Rendezvous points (RVPs)
- Strategic holding areas (SHAs)
- Emergency response plans, including event plans
- Building plans for transport-related features such as stations, airports and docks, including:
- Fire safety plans
- Floor plans
- Site plans
- Evacuation strategies
- Systems in modes of transport, including:
- Fire alarm systems
- Security systems
- Closed-circuit television (CCTV)
- Integral communication systems
- Signage
- External surveys of the mode of transport
- Observations from thermal imaging
- Information from:
- Fire control rooms
- Responsible person
- Transport employees
- Members of the public
- External safety officers
- Personnel operating inside the transport-related building or mode of transport
- Statutory resilience forums
- Other agencies
