Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Use local knowledge to supplement the use of satellite navigation, printed maps and street maps
  • Use local knowledge to anticipate the effect of the incident on approach routes
  • Acquire local knowledge about local events, traffic hotspots and roads prone to flooding
  • Acquire local knowledge about rural areas if applicable, including:
    • Accessibility of farm tracks
    • Types of open land
    • Sites of special scientific interest (SSSI)

Consider delegating responsibility for navigation to suitably qualified members of the team

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Allow those personnel who have the best local knowledge to assist with navigation to an incident

Confirm details of the incident with fire control rooms to assist in locating the incident

Demonstrate the ability to:

  • Use the local knowledge of the fire control room to assist with navigation to an incident
